
Sorghum is a genus of flowering plants in the grass family Poaceae. Seventeen of the 25 species are native to Australia, with the range of some extending to Africa, Asia, Mesoamerica, and certain islands in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Sorghum is among the most efficient crops in conversion of solar energy and use of water. Sorghum is the fifth largest crop in the world after rice, maize, wheat and barley.
